Severed body parts, blood-spattered table, ceilings full of terrifying symbols, rooms filled with cobwebs, spiders, skeletons, coffins, vampires, scary illustrations, mummies, graveyards, witches’ hats, frightening inscriptions, candles, eerie sounds, bats, black cats, glowing pumpkins and even live props – these were just some of the decorations that gave Cleverlearn a spine-chilling and ghostly atmosphere last October 29, 2010 as it celebrated the Halloween. All Cleverlearn employees attended the event.

It was a whole day affair. Earlier that day, teachers and staff and some students made Cleverlearn spookier as they put on their scary Halloween costumes. Teachers had their classes wearing their Halloween attire. The kids also brought their small pumpkin baskets and roamed around as they did the “trick or treat” thing. Face painting and Haunted house were also offered which attracted costumers later on that day.

The main program started around 5:30 pm. The emcees John Mark delos Santos and Edsel Muzares used their mastery of words to put everyone in a party mood. Everyone had been pre- assigned to his or her respective team – the blue, yellow, red and green teams. Each team is composed of teachers, students and staff. Each team had their designated area during the party.

The games started after Ms. Shelley Kei Sato, Cleverlearn’s Vice-President delivered the opening message. Ilene Angelitud, the game show’s host graced the program with her expertise in handling the games. Hep2x Hurray was the first game. Each team had 4 representatives respectively. Tanya of the yellow team emerged as the winner. The next game was a fun fact trivia about Halloween. Again, the respective teams had 4 representatives each. The red team won this competition.

Then dinner was served at 6:30 pm. While enjoying the food, everyone had the chance to chat with his or her teammates and with other teams as well. The casting of the votes for the Best in Halloween Costume was also done during this time.

The program proceeded with a superb dance number by students and teachers that wowed the spectators. It was followed with the awarding of the Best in Halloween Costume. JC got the third price, Maria the second and Tanya grabbed the first price.

Then selected teachers captivated the audience once more as they rendered another splendid dance presentation. After that, the results of the decoration contest were announced. There was a pre-judging of this contest last October 26. The four teams came up with their unique concepts that gave the judges a hard time. Furthermore, Green team’s Marie and Red Team’s Tawing became live props as they portrayed the white lady and the corpse respectively. This added to the chilling effects of their decorations. Yellow team placed 3rd; blue, second; red, first; and the green team, as the champion.

After the awards were given, some teachers, staff and students showcased their Halloween outfit and their modeling skills as they paraded their way to the stage during a mini-fashion show. The excitement continued after the fashion show as the disco started where many danced to the lively music. Others went inside the haunted house and enjoyed the thrill it offered.

Indeed, the event was a success. Thanks to the efforts and cooperation of the teachers, staff and students and to Cleverlearn’s management for the support they have given in ensuring the success of this activity.
